But the workaround still can’t defeat the newest version of Nvidia’s LHR tech.

Nvidia began releasing LHR (or “Lite Hash Rate”) graphics cards last year to slow down their cryptocurrency mining performance and make them less appealing to non-gamers. Late last week, crypto-mining platform NiceHash announced that it had finally found a way around those limitations and released an update for its QuickMiner software that promises full Ethereum mining performance on nearly all of the LHR-enabled GeForce RTX 3000-series GPUs.
Unlike past attempts to disable the LHR protections, NiceHash's workaround appears to be the real deal—Tom's Hardware was able to confirm the performance boosts using QuickMiner and a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.
For now, NiceHash says that the LHR workaround will only work in Windows, with "no Linux support yet." The more flexible NiceHash Miner software doesn't include the workarounds yet, though it will soon. NiceHash also says that the software won't accelerate mining performance on newer GeForce cards that use version 3 of the LHR algorithm, a list that (for now) includes the RTX 3050 and the 12GB version of the RTX 3080 but which will presumably grow as Nvidia releases new GPUs and updated revisions for older GPUs.

As the name suggests, it has a 16 inch OLED display, but the notebook also packs up to a 12th-gen Intel Core i9-12900H processor, up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics, a built-in Asus Dial for controlling content creation software.
The laptop also has 6 speakers, 4 microphones, and a full HD webcam.
Asus says the ZenBook Pro 16X OLED’s display is a 4K touchscreen with a 16:10 aspect ratio and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and support for an Asus Pen 2.0 digital stylus with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.
The notebook also supports up to 32GB of LPDDR5-5200 memory and up to 2TB of PCIe 4.0 storage with speeds up to 6500 MB/s. And it has a keyboard that tilts upward when the laptop is open, which both gives the keys a tilt and opens some space below the keyboard for improved airflow. The backlit keyboard also supports per-key RGB lighting.
Under the keyboard is a large touchpad with support for Asus NumberPad functionality (allowing you to use the touch area as a numeric keypad) and haptic feedback (it will vibrate as you press a number to emulate the feel of actual keys).
The built-in Asus Dial is a customizable controller that can be used with photo and video editing software or any application that supports the Microsoft Dial.
Other features include a 96 Wh battery, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI 2.1 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, a headset jack, and an SD card reader. The notebook has an aluminum chassis that measures just 16.9mm (0.67 inches) thick.
Asus hasn’t yet announced pricing or availability details.

“Dojo” supercomputer will train neural networks that power self-driving software.

Tesla on Friday sued a former thermal engineer for trade secret theft. The company accused its ex-employee, Alexander Yatskov, of transferring confidential information from Tesla's network to his personal laptop.
Yatskov was hired in January to work on Dojo, the supercomputer Tesla is building to train its self-driving software. Through its customers' vehicles, Tesla gathers vast quantities of real-world camera data. Dojo will use this data to train the neural networks that power Autopilot, Tesla's self-driving software.
According to Tesla, Yatskov was assigned to a team that "runs complex simulations of how different thermal designs affect heat distribution, and in turn, affect the balancing of speed, power, safety, cost and environmental concerns."

The Banana Pi BPI-R2 Pro is a single-board computer with a Rockchip RK3568 processor, 2GB of LPDDR4 memory, 16GB of eMMC storage.
But what sets this little computer apart from most single-board PCs is that it’s designed for use as a router. It has five Gigabit Ethernet ports and connectors that you can use to add an optional wireless card.
First announced last August, the Banana Pi BPI-R2 Pro is now available for purchase from AliExpress for $95.
At the heart of the new board is a 2 GHz ARM Cortex-A55 quad-core processor with Mali-G52 graphics and a dedicated neural processing unit. And in addition to the Ethernet ports, there are M.2 and mini PCIe card slots that can be used to add a WiFi & Bluetooth module and/or a 4G or 5G modem.
Other features include an HDMI port, two USB 3.0 ports, a micro USB 2.0 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD card reader, and a SATA connector. There are also two MIPI-DSI display interface, a MIPI-CSI interface for a camera, and a 40 pin header.
The board measures 148 x 101mm 5.8″ x 4″ and weighs 100 grams (3.5 ounces).
The makers of the BPI-R2 Pro offer several operating systems that can be installed on the board, including builds of Ubuntu 21.04 or Debian 10 GNU/Linux distributions or OpenWRT-21.02, an operating system designed to function as open source firmware for routers.
The new board looks is physically quite similar identical to the original BPI-R2 which launched five years ago, but the manufacturer has upgraded the processor from a 1.3 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor to a the much faster Rockchip RK3568 processor.
While the old model also had built-in support for WiFi 4 and Bluetooth 4.1, the new version does not, but instead has plenty of options for adding your own wireless module.

“FETUS” edit comes as NYT says game should “remain distinct from the news.”

The New York Times has altered the Wordle solutions list to avoid an answer for today's puzzle that would have "seem[ed] closely connected to a major recent news event," as the company put it in a public note this morning.
Today's originally intended solution, FETUS, was first added to the game's word list last year, when Wordle creator Josh Wardle included it among the randomly ordered list of roughly 2,300 five-letter words intended to define the daily word game for years to come. The New York Times has pushed that term to the end of the game's solutions list, where it is now scheduled to appear sometime in late 2027 (it remains to be seen if today's news focus on the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision will still be as much of a concern by then).
Copies of the Wordle webpage on the Internet Archive show the Times making the change for today's puzzle sometime on May 6. As such, players who have not refreshed the Wordle webpage in the last few days "may see an outdated answer that seems closely connected to a major recent news event," as the Times wrote.
