NVIDIA’s new 144-core “Superchip” is set to ship next year, and the company’s new H100 graphics accelerator featuring next-gen “Hopper” GPU architecture is coming later in 2022. Both of those products are designed for servers. But NVIDIA kicked of this year’s GTC by introducing seven new GPUs for professional laptop and desktop computers.

The new NVIDIA RTX A-series GPUs are are all based on NVIDIA Ampere graphics architecture and feature technologies including 3rd-gen NVIDIA Tensor cores and 2nd-gen RT cores.

Asus ProArt StudioBook 16 (available with NVIDIA RTX A3000)

Keep in mind that these new GPUs are optimized at content creation including 3D rendering, video editing, and other activities rather than gaming. The most powerful of the bunch is a new NVIDIA RTX A5500 desktop GPU, which has 24GB of GDDR6 memory and up to 2X faster ray-tracing and 9X faster motion blur rendering performance than the previous-gen.

Two of those GPus can also be combined for up to 48GB of total memory using NVIDIA’s NVLink technology.

NVIDIA says RTX A5500 desktop GPUs are available now from channel partners, and will be coming from system builders starting next quarter.

As for the new laptop GPUs, they’ll start showing up soon in notebooks from companies including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, and BOXX Technologies.

NVIDIA has unveiled a new Grace CPU Superchip for servers that packs 144 ARM CPU cores into a single socket using the same trick Apple used for its M1 Ultra processor: smush two chips together using a high-speed interface.

For the M1 Ultra, Apple developed what it calls “UltraFusion” architecture. NVIDI calls its interconnect architecture NVLink-C2C and says it supports bandwidths “of 900 gigabytes per second or higher” while delivering far better efficiency than a PCIe Gen 5 interface.

While the first chip to make use of the new NVLink-C2C technology is designed for data centers rather than consumer devices, NVIDIA plans to use it to connect CPUs, GPUs, and other components for “a new class of integrated products built via chiplets” that deliver high bandwidth and density, but low latency and power consumption.

As for the Grace CPU Superchip, in addition to 144 ARMv9 CPU cores, the chip supports LPDDR5x memory with 1TB/s bandwidth and Error Correction Code (ECC). The CPU consumes less than 500 watts while

The Grace CPU Superchip should ship in the first half of 2023.

Android’s Google app can now delete the last 15 minutes of search history

The Google Search app gets an easy “delete history” shortcut.

Google is finally releasing a "delete history" feature, which will wipe out the last 15 minutes of search queries, for the Android Google Search app. "Delete history" was announced at Google I/O 2021 in May and made it to the iOS app two months later, but for some reason, it took almost a year to come to Android. It's finally rolling out now, though, according to a statement Google gave to The Verge over the weekend.

If you want to wipe out the last few minutes of your search history, open the Google Search app via the app icon (other entry points, like the search bar widget, won't bring up the right UI), tap on your profile picture in the top right and you should see a new "delete last 15 minutes" option at the top of the pop-up menu. If you don't see the setting yet, try swiping the app away in recent apps and opening it again, which will load the newest configuration from the cloud.

Wiping out your search history is sort of like wiping out browser history, but Google stores search history to your account in the cloud. As the app explains, Google Search history tracks "the things you search for, results you click, and stories you read" while using the Google app or Google.com. Google also captures your location, plus audio recordings if you run a voice search. The search terms are used to show more relevant ads, of course, but also for future search predictions and to display content in Google Discover.

Legally, Russia can’t just take its Space Station and go home

Ignore Dmitry Rogozin. Putin is the real decision maker.

The fate of the International Space Station hangs in the balance as tensions between Russia and the West escalate following the country's invasion of Ukraine.

However, given that the conflict is now nearly a month old and the old laboratory is still flying high, it appears that the partnership among Russia, the United States, and 13 other nations will continue to hold. This article will consider the future of the partnership from three different dimensions: technical, legal, and political. It starts with the solid premise, repeated over and over by NASA officials, that the United States wants to continue flying the International Space Station through at least 2024.

The real question about the near-term future of the International Space Station, therefore, is whether Russia wants to continue flying it. The answer is "probably yes."
