Over the past few years a number of Chinese PC makers have released tiny desktop computers that measure just 2.4 inches across and which pack low-power Intel Celeron processors. This year they started shaking things up a bit with the introduction of slightly larger 2.8 inch models packing more ports and newer, faster processors.
While most of the new 2.8 inch mini PCs I’ve seen so far have featured Intel Celeron N5105 processors, BYONE is now selling a model with a Celeron N5095 processor and 8GB of RAM.
Available from AliExpress for $370 and up, the BYONE mini PC is available with 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of solid state storage. It ships with Windows 10 pre-installed, supports WiFi and Bluetooth, and has a Gigabit Ethernet port.
BYONE’s product page shows a little computer with two USB 3.0 Type-A ports and a power button on the front, but there are no images of the back or sides. Still, given how similar the little computer looks to other 2.8 inch mini PCs, I’d venture a guess that it likely that it also has a third USB Type-A port on the back, a USB Type-C port for power input, two HDMI ports, a headset jack, and a microSD card reader.
As for why BYONE is offering a model in this price range with a Celeron 5095 processor, I can’t really hazard a guess, especially since models with the similar Celeron N5105 chip are selling for as much as $200 less.
Here’s a comparison of the two chips:
Celeron N5095 | Celeron N5105 | |
Archictecture | Jasper Lake | Jasper Lake |
TDP | 15W | 10W |
Cores / Threads | 4 / 4 | 4 / 4 |
Base / burst freq | 2 GHz / 2.9 GHz | 2 GHz / 2.9 GHz |
Cache | 4MB L3 | 4MB L3 |
Max RAM | 16GB DDR4 or LPDDR4x-2933 | 16GB DDR4 or LPDDR4x-2933 |
GPU | Intel UHD | Intel UHD |
GPU execution units | 16 | 24 |
GPU base / burst freq | 450 MHz / 750 MHz | 450 MHz / 800 MHz |
Integrated wireless | None | WiFi 6 |
Extra features | N/A | Intel Smart Sound Intel Wake on Voice Intel HD Audio |
Release date | Q1, 2021 | Q1, 2021 |
Theoretically I suppose it’s possible that the extra 5 watts could give the Celeron N5095 a slight edge in some CPU-heavy tasks, but the chips appear to be fairly evenly matched in at least some benchmarks.
Anyway, I suppose it’s nice to have options – if you’ve had your eye on a 2.8 inch mini PC but were disappointed that there was only a single processor offered, now there are two (very similar) chips to choose from.

The software fix will be sent out to cars in early February.
Tesla has issued a new recall this week. On Tuesday it notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that some new Models S and X, as well as potentially any Models 3 or Y, might not sound the required chimes if the vehicle starts and the driver is not buckled up. The problem affects 817,143 vehicles and will be fixed by a software update.
Federal motor vehicle safety standards require that our cars make an annoying noise if they are started by a driver who is not wearing a seat belt.
However, according to the NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report, if "the chime was interrupted in the preceding drive cycle and the seat belt was not buckled subsequent to that interruption (e.g., the driver exited the vehicle in the preceding drive cycle while the chime was active and later returned to the vehicle, creating a new drive cycle)," then the chime won't sound.

This concept won’t go into production, but many of the ideas might.
Concepts—mocked up products of the future—aren't unique to the car industry. Today's vision of an electrified future comes from a car-adjacent manufacturer: the travel trailer and coach builder Airstream. Together with its parent company, THOR Industries, it has developed the eStream, an electrified version of one of its classic aluminum travel trailers.
Under the eStream's floor you'll find slabs of lithium-ion battery modules—up to 80 kWh in total. As you might imagine, these can power the trailer while it's parked. This runs electric heating and air conditioning as well as all the other ancillaries, doing away with the need for propane tanks, usually found near the hitch.
But the trailer's powertrain, developed in partnership with ZF, also features a pair of electric motors that can drive the eStream's wheels while being towed. This should boost the range of a towing EV by between 50-75 percent, Airstream thinks. The trailer even has an electronic stability-control function that can add torque to an individual wheel to combat any swaying or side movements while towing. This also does away with the need for a weight-distribution hitch, Airstream says.

$75B deal for Activision Blizzard is central to shaping online interactions in the metaverse.
Not long after being promoted to the role of chief executive at Microsoft, in 2014, Satya Nadella had faced calls to ditch the tech group’s Xbox games division and concentrate its resources on cloud computing—to compete with rivals, such as Amazon. But instead, Nadella saw an opportunity to build new customer bases through online gaming communities. His first deal as chief executive was buying Minecraft, the three-dimensional world-building game.
At the same time, he further developed Microsoft’s dominant position in personal and business software and expanded its cloud and server offerings. Shares in the group have risen eightfold under Nadella’s tenure, and it remains the world’s largest software group.
However, last month’s $75 billion deal to buy video game maker Activision Blizzard will also make Microsoft the world’s third-biggest gaming company by revenue, behind only China’s Tencent and Japan’s Sony.
