AMD has announced that it will begin shipping Ryzen 7000 series desktop chips with Zen 4 CPU architecture in the second half of 2022.
The company hasn’t providing many details about what to expect from Ryzen 7000 and Zen 4 yet, but here’s what we know so far:
The new chips will be manufactured on TSMC’s 5nm node
There will be a new AM5 chipset with an LGA1718 socket
The chips will support dual-channel DDR5 memory
They’ll also support 28 PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes
TDPs will be in the 105 to 120 watt range
Ryzen 7000 chips also also known by the code name “Raphael.” And that’s about all we know so far, other than the fact that AMD expects is targeting gamers with the new processor.
More details including model names and frequencies will be available closer to launch.

AMD is refreshing it’s mobile processor lineup with the launch of new chips including high-power models aimed at high-performance gaming laptops and mobile workstations and more energy-efficient chips designed for thin and light laptops.
All of the new additions to the AMD Ryzen H-Series line of high performance Ryzen 6000 series processors, which are 6nm chips featuring new Zen 3+ CPU cores and RDNA 2 integrated graphics. New U-Series chips are a bit more of a mixed bag, with some models featuring the latest technologies while others are more modest updates to last year’s 7nm Ryzen 5000U chips with Zen 3 CPU cores and Vega graphics.
The big news is that AMD says its Ryzen 6000 mobile chips bring up to 1.3X more processing speed and up to 2X the graphics performance of their Ryzen 5000 counterparts. But these are also energy-efficient mobile chips designed to offer long battery life when you’re not pushing the chips to their limits by playing games, editing videos, or running other resource-intensive tasks. AMD says you can expect up to 24 hours of battery life for video playback on a laptop with a Ryzen 6000 processor.
The new chips are also the first processors to incorporate Microsoft’s new Pluton security processor, and while they still don’t have native support for Thunderbolt, AMD says the Ryzen 6000 platform includes support for USB4 40 Gbps ports, PCIe Gen 4, DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, and HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.
And the new RDNA 2 graphics technology makes the Ryzen 6000 series chips the first integrated GPUs to support hardware-accelerated ray tracing. AMD says the GPU Compute Engine is 50% larger and the new GPU supports frequencies up to 2.4 GHz.
Here’s a run-down of the first Ryzen 6000 H-Series processors:

AMD is taking aim at thin and light gaming laptops with the launch of a new RX 6000S line of mobile graphics optimized for notebooks that weigh less than 4.5 pounds and which measure less than 20mm (0.79 inches) thick.
The new GPUs are optimized to balance performance and power consumption in order to bring the benefits of discrete graphics to laptops that are as much as 20% thinner than models with AMD’s higher-performance RX 6000M GPUs.
New Radeon RX 6000S series chips include:
Radeon RX 6800S – 1.975 GHz with 32 compute units, 32MB cache, 8GB of 16 Gbps memory
Radeon RX 6700S – 1.89 GHz with 28 compute units, 32MB cache, and 8GB of 15 Gbps memory
Radeon RX 6600S – 1.881 GHz with 28 compute units, 32MB cache, and 4GB of 15 Gbps RAM
AMD is also updating the RX 6000M line of GPUs with new models offering performance uplift ranging from 7% to 200% (with the biggest gains on the entry-level models).
AMD says more than 20 laptops with AMD Ryzen processors and the latest Radeon graphics are coming in 2022 including new models from Asus and Alienware.

TCL is probably best known for making TVs, but the Chinese electronics company also makes smartphones, tablets, and other devices. And now the company is introducing its first laptop: the TCL Book 14 Go is a budget thin and light Windows 11 notebook with a 14.1 inch display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c processor and support for 4G LTE networks.
It should be available in select markets for $349 starting in the second quarter of 2022.
At that price, you can almost forgive the laptop’s relatively slow processor. What may be a little harder to overlook is the underwhelming 1366 x 768 pixel display, which might be (barely) acceptable on a $200 Chromebook with an 11.6 inch display, but which feels a little out of place on a $300+ Windows laptop with a 14 inch screen. At least it’s an IPS display which should offer decent viewing angles.
The TCL Book 14 Go has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, a 40 Wh battery for up to 12 hours of run time, and a fairly svelte design: the notebook measures about 0.55 inches thick and weighs 2.9 pounds.
Other features include support for WIFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, stereo 1W speakers, two USB 2.0 Type-C ports, a USB 3.0 Type-A port, a 3.5mm headset jack, and a microSD card reader/nano SIM card combo slot. There’s a 1MP camera for 720p video conferencing.
The laptop will ship with Windows 11 software.
TCL is also announcing a new tablet called the NXTPAPER 10s that will be available in Europe and China later in January for $249. The 10.1 inch tablet is the latest in a line of NXTPAPER devices that use TCL’s anti-glare, sunlight-readable display technology that’s not quite a match for E Ink when it comes to paperlike displays, but which the offers a full range of color.
The tablet features a 1920 x 1200 pixel display, a MediaTek MT876E processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage plus a 5,500 mAh battery. It comes with a capacitive touch pen.
