It was just over a week ago that Apple released macOS 10.14.6, but the company has already pushed out a Supplemental Update. Released today, the update fixes a heretofore not-widely-known issue involving sleep mode on Macs.

It seems at least some Macs have failed to wake up after going into sleep mode. The update doesn't seem to change much else. Apple's complete notes are as follows:

The macOS Mojave 10.14.6 Supplemental Update fixes an issue that may prevent certain Macs from waking from sleep properly.

While this bug did not attract widespread press or community attention, forums like MacRumors have seen some posts from users claiming they've had this issue and are hopeful this update will fix it.

AT&T Time Warner's upcoming video-streaming service, HBO Max, has already been announced with an ambitious content plan ahead of its "Spring 2020" launch window. That plan grew ever larger on Thursday with the news that its American debut will include a major non-AT&T library of content: a wealth of BBC America series, particularly the complete "modern" run of Doctor Who.

This will mark the first time American viewers will have streaming-subscription access to the series' 11th season, which wrapped in December 2018 and introduced the world to the 13th Doctor, who is the first female actor in the role, Jodie Whittaker. (As of press time, your legitimate access to these 2018 episodes has been limited to subscribing to a cable-TV plan or buying episodes a la carte.)

HBO Max's deal with BBC America, as announced by WarnerMedia, will include every previous episode in the most recently rebooted Doctor Who series, dating back to 2005, and "future seasons after they air on BBC America." Since HBO Max will have the "exclusive streaming rights" to the series, that means existing Amazon Prime Video users will assumedly lose their existing subscription-based access to seasons 1-10 ahead of the rival streaming service's launch.

Apple’s AirPlay 2 is coming to more television models. Both Vizio and LG have announced plans to roll out support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. These moves will offer more households the option to wirelessly stream entertainment from Apple devices through AirPlay 2 and to offer additional connected home and voice controls with HomeKit.

LG is focusing these updates on its newest TV models. The company began a software update to bring AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to select television models from this year. Certain 2019 models of LG OLED and NanoCell 4K UHD TVs with ThinQ AI capability in the United States will be the first to receive the update. The rest of LG’s 2019 4K UHD television collection will get the updates later this year.

Vizio is taking a more comprehensive approach. It will roll out AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to SmartCast television models from 2016 forward. The company noted that the broad rollout would take several months to complete.

Pai’s FCC orders cities and towns to stop regulating cable broadband

The Federal Communications Commission today ordered cities and towns across the country to stop regulating broadband delivered over cable networks.

The vote to approve Chairman Ajit Pai's plan also limits the fees that municipalities can charge cable companies. This could impact public TV stations and services that network operators provide cities and towns in exchange for cable TV franchises.

The FCC announcement of its decision said, "the Order prohibits excessive franchise fees and explains that local governments may not regulate most non-cable services, including broadband Internet access service, offered over a cable system." The FCC claimed that its decision "remove[s] obstacles to the deployment of broadband."
