New Justice League trailer looks more Batman V. Superman than Wonder Woman

DC finally enters cinema’s modern superteam game on November 17.

Compared to the world's initial Justice League glimpses at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, a new trailer from this weekend's New York Comic-Con outlines more of what seems like a plot for the November 17 film.

Reporters in Metropolis were never ones to pull punches. "The world remains in mourning after the death of Superman," one broadcaster notes early in the new teaser. "Violence, terrorism, and acts of war are all on the rise." The Daily Planet only takes it up another notch from there with a simple headline: World Without Hope.

And thus the stage is set for DC's first foray into the modern world of cinematic superteams. Taking place after the events of 2016's Batman V. SupermanJustice League sees Batman and Wonder Woman returning to deal with extraterrestrial beings descending upon Earth and seemingly fulfilling Lex Luthor's end-of-world prophecies. In a pickle and without the services of the Man of Steel, the duo evidently embarks on successful recruiting missions for Aquaman, Cyborg, and The Flash. (The comic-heads in your life may also note hints at what seems to be Darkseid's involvement.)

SNES Classic hack allows you to load additional games

Nintendo’s SNES Classic Edition is an $80 game console that looks like a tiny version of the company’s 1990 game console, and which comes with 20 classic games pre-installed. SiFive unveils first Linux-ready RISC-V processor

Chips made by Intel and AMD currently dominate the PC space, while most smartphones and tablets tend to feature processors based on ARM designs. There are few other options, but one of the most intriguing are chips based on the RISC-V architecture. Since 2010, the RISC-V project has been developing an open instruction set architecture […]

Super NES Classic hacks are now oh, so easy to pull off—you can even add features

One year after working on NES Classic, Russian hacker returns with similar exploit.

After guesses, estimations, and positive early tests, the Super NES Classic has emerged as a hackable little piece of gaming nostalgia—and quite an easy one to hack, at that. This weekend saw the September device receive a simple exploit in the form of hakchi2, a Windows program designed by a Russian hacker who calls himself "ClusterM," and, among other things, it allows fans to add far more games to the system than its default set of 21.

If any of that sounds familiar, as opposed to gibberish, it's because the same program and hacker emerged shortly after the launch of 2016's Linux-powered NES Classic. ClusterM found a way to wrap that system's FEL-mode exploit (read lots more about that here) in a tidy Windows GUI, which allowed fans to use Windows Explorer menus to dump game ROMs, emulator cores, and even new art into their boxy ode to '80s Nintendo bliss.

ClusterM announced plans to repeat his trick well before the SNES Classic landed in stores, and his hacking hopes looked promising with the reveal, courtesy of Eurogamer, that the SNES Classic has a near-identical chipset and board compared to the NES Classic. Initial tests of the FEL-mode exploit, which requires booting into a telnet interface to talk to Nintendo's Linux box, proved promising, and ClusterM returned eight days after the system's launch with a new hakchi2 version—which now works with either "Nintendo classic" system.

Apple TV 4K review: Ambition, meet reality

Image quality is great, but the admirable TV app moonshot didn’t quite make it.

Enlarge / The Apple TV 4K and remote.

With the Apple TV 4K, Apple is trying to do more than just provide you with a gadget that can stream Netflix or iTunes Store movies in 4K. This device seeks to solve a problem: the digital TV viewing experience is fragmented and bad, especially if you want to use the sorts of TV network apps that gate episodes or live broadcasts behind a cable provider.

The Apple TV 4K combines an app store, single sign-on authentication with cable providers, Siri-driven search, and a centralized TV app to unify your TV viewing experience whether you’re a cord cutter or just looking for an over-the-top (OTT) addition to your cable subscription.

The previous Apple TV had similar goals, but the new model adds a much faster CPU, long-overdue 4K and HDR support, and tvOS 11 (which is also available on the previous model). tvOS 11 aims to make your life easier with features like AirPod support and home-screen sync. And the Apple TV 4K plays games, too.
