Raccoon Android APK downloader gets new UI, premium features

Raccoon is a desktop application that lets you download Android app installer files directly from the Google Play Store. It’s a useful tool for saving backups of your apps or for transferring Android apps to a device that either doesn’t have the Play Store installed or which Google thinks isn’t compatible with the particular app you want to install.

Samsung teases Tab S3 at Mobile World Congress

Anyone interested in an Android tablet?

(credit: Samsung)

Samsung has stated it won't be bringing the Galaxy S8 to Mobile World Congress, but that doesn't mean the electronics giant will be a total no-show in Barcelona. Last night Samsung sent out invites for its MWC press conference, teasing a new tablet.

The device is most likely the Galaxy Tab S3, Samsung's first Android tablet since the Tab S2 launched in 2015. Recent leaks claim the device will have a Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and a 9.6-inch, 2048×1536 display.

The Tab S3 will be Samsung's first tablet with Android 7.0 Nougat, which finally brought native split-screen support to Android. Samsung has been baking in a custom-rolled split screen solution for some time, but Google's implementation is a standardized API that developers are actually expected to support.

Denuvo: Our cracked RE7 protection is still better than nothing [Updated]

DRM says main goal is “keeping the game safe… during the initial sales window”

Enlarge / This sweaty, fearful Resident Evil 7 character probably provides a good representation of Denuvo's worries about being cracked more efficiently.

After the Denuvo DRM protection for Capcom's Resident Evil 7 was recently cracked less than a week after the game's release, what used to be considered practically "uncrackable" copy protection is looking quite a bit less valuable. Now, Denuvo is defending its "Anti-Tamper" technology, saying it's still the best copy protection currently available.

"It's correct that the title in question was cracked some days after release," Denuvo Marketing Director Thomas Goebl told Eurogamer. That said, "Given the fact that every unprotected title is cracked on the day of release—as well as every update of games—our solution made a difference for this title."

It's definitely true that even a few days of effective post-release copy protection is worth something to publishers, who see cracked versions of games as a direct threat to their sales (especially during the crucial first few days after release). The question is whether that short period of protection is worth the reportedly high price Denuvo charges publishing partners for its technology.
