Score one for the humans: Google AI defeated at Go [Updated]

The DeepMind revolution was also televised; all matches can be watched online.

A video explaining DeepMind's AlphaGo Go-playing software. The live video of tonight's match is embedded below.

Late on Tuesday night, Google's DeepMind AI group will face down against one of the world's best human Go players, Lee Se-dol of South Korea. The game will be streamed live on YouTube (of course), which is embedded at the end of this story.

There will be five matches in total between AlphaGo (DeepMind's Go-playing software) and Lee, all played at the Four Seasons hotel in Seoul over the next few days. The first match begins at 1pm local time on March 9, which equates to 4am GMT, or 11:00pm (March 8) EST if you happen to live on the east coast of the US. Each match should last more than four hours, so you might be able to catch the end of the match in the UK if you wake up early.

The winner of the series will win a $1 million (£700,000) prize—but if DeepMind wins, it will donate the proceeds to charity. Lee, by virtue of being a champion prizefighter who has spent most of his life honing his Go skills, will also get about £100,000 just for turning up and £15,000 for each match that he wins.

HTC 10 (née HTC One M10) outed in leaked renders

You'd be forgiven for thinking that HTC only made VR headsets nowadays, such is the anticipation for its first Steam VR, room-scale headset, the Vive. But HTC's roots are in phones, and for those who are fans of the company's famously attractive unibody metal designs and finger-friendly five-inch screens, the company has something special on the way.

The HTC 10—or HTC One M10, depending on who you ask—has been the subject of numerous leaks since HTC sent out its cryptic teaser image at tail end of this year's Mobile World Congress. But, thanks to serial leakers @OnLeaks and @evleaks on Twitter, that teaser image isn't so cryptic any more. @evleaks has posted supposed renders of the HTC 10, showing a unique bevelled edge on the rear of the phone, which matches up with the earlier teaser image.

As you'd expect from HTC, the rear of the phone appears to be all metal, along with a centrally placed camera module. Besides the module is an LED flash, along with what might be the apparatus for laser autofocus, similar to the system used in the likes of the Nexus 6P, LG G5, and HTC's own (Taiwan-only) HTC One M9+ Aurora Edition.

Attorney for “Drone Slayer” says federal lawsuit should be dismissed

“In reality, this is a Bullitt County small claims court case.”

(credit: GoFundMe)

The man who shot down a drone over his Kentucky home last year has filed a new legal response to an ongoing lawsuit, arguing that the case should be dismissed because the federal court lacks jurisdiction.

William Merideth shot down a drone flying over his home in June 2015. The drone's pilot, David Boggs, filed a lawsuit in January asking the court in Louisville to make a legal determination as to whether his drone’s flight constituted trespassing. Boggs asked the court to rule that he is entitled to damages of $1,500 for his destroyed drone.

"The United States Government has exclusive sovereignty over airspace of the United States pursuant to 49 U.S.C.A. § 40103," Boggs' lawyer, James Mackler, wrote in the civil complaint. "The airspace, therefore, is not subject to private ownership nor can the flight of an aircraft within the navigable airspace of the United States constitute a trespass."
